A group of writers in one place – no matter how small – means a mass of wriggling, teeming energy. Diverse personalities, backgrounds, interests, and talents brought together for the sole purpose of sharing a love and a passion for writing. Days spent laughing, writing, talking, and sharing provides forward movement when nothing else will. It is a well earned boost to the creative juices. Every writer should attend one.
How much writing you accomplish isn’t really the point. The brainstorming, the ideas thrown around, the markets explored, the conferences discovered, are all priceless for writers. It can take hours of legwork or an administrative assistant-which no writer I know can afford-to accomplish so much in so little time. Many hands and all that. We leave retreat sad that it’s over but rejuvenated and excited to go back and start anew. Send out those queries, make those pitches, and keep writing.
