Pumpkins, Ghosts, and Word Count

window_and____by_ahmetkasim The month that ends with Halloween is my favorite. I love the fall of  the year with its autumn colors and cool air and smell of burning leaves. I enjoy the decorations and the kids in costumes. It’s a great month. This year talk spun across the web of writers putting their noses to the grindstone ahead of NaNo which comes at us like a freight train next month. I’m sure a lot of people have signed on to prep themselves and be in fighting shape come November 1.

Since I’m not participating in NaNo this year, my reason for joining the fun is different. I liked the idea of placing myself under pressure during a time when I like to take walks outside and sit on the patio and listen to the leaves rustle in the wind. Now, before I can enjoy the things I most enjoy, I must have the writing done. It’s not always easy when I see people walking past the house and I know I’d rather be watching the geese on the pond but the satisfaction is worth it. This has been one of the most productive months I’ve had. Yeah me! And I’m still enjoying those pumpkins and ghosts and things that bring chills.

Have you taken time to set a goal for yourself of so much time in a day or so many pages or words and dedicate to do it for a month? Do you participate in NaNo?
